# Contexer.ai > Contexer is the decision control layer between engineering teams and coding agents. It captures what engineers decide, requires human approval before proposed decisions become trusted context, distributes approved decisions across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Gemini CLI, detects drift in GitHub pull requests, and enforces approved rules through a shipped local commit-time guard. ## What Contexer solves - **Agents read code, not reasoning**: The repository holds every what, not the why. Contexer holds the constraints, conventions, and decisions that govern the code. - **Plausible but wrong output**: Engineers repeatedly correct the same class of mistake because nothing wrote the constraint down in a form agents read. - **Stale, single-player rules files**: Hand-edited rules drift, are never reviewed, and are never versioned. - **Inconsistent agents**: Each agent reads a different file. Contexer compiles one approved decision set into each agent's native format. ## Workflow 1. **Capture** decisions while developers work (open source). 2. **Human approval** before an agent-proposed decision becomes trusted (open source). 3. **Share** approved decisions across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Gemini CLI (local in open source, shared in Teams). 4. **Detect** architecture drift in GitHub pull requests, advisory today (Teams). 5. **Enforce** approved rules with the shipped local commit-time guard: warns before commit, and deterministic regex/secret checks can block locally when explicitly armed (open source). ## Tiers - **Open Source** (free, MIT): Local JSON store in `~/.contexer/`. Decision capture, approval, cross-agent context, file-aware retrieval, version history, local guard. No account required. - **Personal Cloud** (free, optional): Sign-in for cloud sync across machines and a web dashboard. - **Teams** (free during early access): Shared approved decisions, team sync and reconciliation, role-based approval, and advisory drift detection on GitHub pull requests. Pricing announced once the IP process is settled. ## Works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, and any MCP-compatible AI coding agent. Pull request drift detection supports GitHub only. ## Pages - [Home](https://contexer.ai/): Positioning, workflow, and pricing. - [Teams](https://contexer.ai/teams): Shared decision governance for engineering teams. - [Benchmark](https://contexer.ai/benchmark): 540 scored sessions across six memory conditions, methodology and limitations. - [Blog](https://contexer.ai/blog): Writing on cross-agent AI coding and shared decision memory. - [Cross-agent sessions](https://contexer.ai/blog/cross-agent-sessions): Why Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex don't share context. - [Why your AI agent re-opens decisions you already made](https://contexer.ai/blog/ai-agent-reopens-settled-decisions): Every WHAT is in your repo, not one WHY. - [Privacy](https://contexer.ai/privacy): GDPR-compliant data handling. - [Terms](https://contexer.ai/terms): Terms of service. - [Cookies](https://contexer.ai/cookies): Cookie usage. ## Links - [GitHub / install open source](https://github.com/bhargavamin/contexer) - [Web app](https://app.contexer.ai) - [Full LLM context](https://contexer.ai/llms-full.txt) ## Keywords decision control layer, engineering decision governance, AI coding agent context, approved decisions for coding agents, architecture drift detection, GitHub PR drift, Claude Code memory, Cursor context, Codex memory, Gemini CLI context, MCP memory server
